Jefferson, 37, was traded from Cleveland to Atlanta on Sunday (AEDT) and released shortly thereafter.
He cleared waivers at 8am Tuesday morning and promptly reached agreement on a one-year, $2.3 million deal with the Nuggets, according to multiple reports, all of which cited unidentified sources.
According to the Denver Post, Jefferson adds a veteran presence to a young Nuggets team aiming for its first playoff berth since 2013.
Jefferson joins a group of forwards that includes starters Paul Millsap and Wilson Chandler and features backups Trey Lyles, Kenneth Faried, Juancho Hernangomez and Tyler Lydon.
The Nuggets plan to waive veteran point guard Jameer Nelson to make room for Jefferson on their 15-man roster, according to ESPN.com.
As a key member of Eastern Conference champion Cavs' bench last season, Jefferson averaged 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.
Denver will be the eighth stop on Jefferson's 17-year NBA journey.
He debuted for the New Jersey Nets in 2001 and has also had stints with the Milwaukee Bucks, San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors, Utah Jazz, Dallas Mavericks and the Cavs.
