Carmelo Anthony is a long way from being a member of the Cavs, or any other team for that matter, but the wheels are beginning to turn.

ESPN's Marc Stein reported Tuesday those close to the 10-time All-Star have made initial overtures to persuade a buyout that could pave the way for Anthony to team up with longtime friend LeBron James in Cleveland.

However, several substantial hurdles must be cleared for the move to happen, bringing an end to a drama-filled relationship between Anthony and Knicks team president Phil Jackson. Chief among the obstacles is Anthony's resistance to leave New York City and the Knicks' unwillingness to enter into any agreement that would ultimately lead to Anthony joining the Cavaliers, according to Stein.
Oftentimes, for high-profile players such as Anthony (22.4 points, 5.9 rebounds per game last season), there's more to consider when contemplating what team they'll join next than what destination puts them in the best position to capture a title. Blood is thicker than everything. Anthony, who has a no-trade clause and would have to approve any deal, was born in Brooklyn as was his estranged wife, actress La La Anthony.
Tuesday, La La told television talk show host Wendy Williams that Carmelo's priority is to remain close to their 10-year-old son, Kiyan.
Carmelo signed a five-year, $124-million deal extension with the Knicks in 2014. He is set to make $26.2 million next season.
