A statement from the Spurs on Friday (AEST) revealed Parker had suffered a ruptured left quadriceps tendon in Thursday's Western Conference semi-final game against the Houston Rockets.

Although a timeline for his return has yet to be determined, the veteran point guard has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

"Spurs guard Tony Parker underwent an MRI examination this morning in San Antonio. The exam revealed that Parker has suffered a ruptured left quadriceps tendon," read the Spurs' statement.

"Parker will miss the remainder of the 2017 NBA playoffs. A timeline for his return will be determined at a later date."

Parker had to be carried off the court after he went down with 8:52 remaining in the fourth quarter of San Antonio's win.

He attempted a running jumper in the lane, but his left leg buckled as he landed on the court at AT&T Center.

The 34-year-old remained on the floor as action transitioned to the other end of the court following his miss.

Parker tried to walk off the floor, but could not put any pressure on his left leg and was carried off the court by team-mates.

He was averaging 15.9 points and 3.1 assists this postseason.

Parker's injury will see Aussie Patty Mills play an increased role for the remainder ot the Spurs' playoff run.
