Matisse Thybulle trade rumors: Warriors have had 'internal discussions' about 76ers' defensive stopper image

As the NBA trade deadline approaches on Thursday, Feb. 9, every team in the league is trying to find a way to upgrade their roster or offload valuable pieces for future assets.

The 76ers find themselves in the contender tier after rattling off 20 wins in their last 25 games, but the franchise is still trying to make some moves in the margins. According to recent reports, that may include trading Aussie defensive stopper Matisse Thybulle, who has had an inconsistent role with Philadelphia this season despite the team's success.

On Tuesday, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Kings were "monitoring the availability" of the 25-year-old wing. On Wednesday, The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey doubled down on Sacramento's reported interest and added the Warriors to the mix of teams intrigued by Thybulle.

"Multiple sources said the Golden State Warriors have had internal discussions about Thybulle and they do like him as a defensive stopper," Pompey reported.

Any team looking for a disruptive defender should be interested in Thybulle, who has made the All-Defensive Second Team in back-to-back seasons.

His offensive limitations are the reason he has fallen out of the 76ers' regular rotation — he's currently averaging a career-low 2.7 points and 0.4 3-pointers made per game — but there is no question Thybulle can serve as a pest for an opposing team's No. 1 scoring option on the perimeter.

Even with his defensive pedigree, Pompey said Thybulle's offensive shortcomings have dropped his trade value considerably from his first few seasons in Philly when he was considered untouchable.

"At the moment, multiple league sources said Thybulle's lack of consistent production has lowered his trade value. The source said, at this time, they wouldn't give up a first-round pick for him," Pompey wrote.

"... Right now, the source added, there's still concern with his reduced role and inability to make shots in the postseason."

With just eight days leading up to the trade deadline, Thybulle will be a name to monitor as contenders attempt to fill holes in their roster for a championship push.
