The chance to see him matchup with some of the league's great players will have to wait until the rookie recovers from a foot injury that is delaying his NBA debut.
On Sunday the Sixers will play host to LeBron James and the defending Champion Cavs, and ahead of the game the four-time MVP had some encouraging words about Simmons.
“The kid grew up well-rounded," James told CSN Philly. "That’s part of the reason he became the No. 1 pick other than his ability to play the game. He’s a great young talent, but he’s a much better person than he is basketball player. Philly should be excited to have him."
LeBron and Simmons share the same agent Rich Paul, and James has often referred to the young Aussie as his "little brother".
The similarities between to the two in stature, and game are some of the main reasons why Simmons has been touted as a potential superstar.
While training in the offseason, The King recognized some of those same qualities.
"His ability to see the floor [stands out the most]. We all went through the workouts and he went better as the days went on,” James said.
“That lets you know that he’s there to work and wants to get better and he wants to train with some of the guys he feels like he wants to work out to get better."
Sixers fans will have to wait to see how Simmons stacks up against Bron when they do meet, but if James' quotes are any indication they will not be disappointed.
