The Lakers and free agent Kentavious Caldwell-Pope reached a one-year deal worth $18 million Tuesday night, according to ESPN.com.

Caldwell-Pope entered the offseason as a restricted free agent, but the Pistons decided they would not match an offer sheet after acquiring shooting guard Avery Bradley from the Celtics.
Once Caldwell-Pope became an unrestricted free agent, the Lakers and Nets were reportedly the first teams to show interest.
Caldwell-Pope was selected eighth overall by the Pistons in the 2013 NBA Draft. The Georgia product averaged 13.8 points per game last year, after tallying 14.5 points per game the year before.
Not only is Caldwell-Pope a solid scorer, he has developed into one of the better wing defenders in the league.
While the addition of Caldwell-Pope doesn't appear to make Los Angeles a playoff contender this season, in the stacked Western Conference, it could keep them out of the cellar with a chance to surprise.
