Kyrie Irving trade from Nets to Mavericks draws eye-popping reaction from NBA world image

Kyrie Irving rocked the NBA world when he requested a trade from the Nets, marking the end of his time spent with a third different NBA team. On Sunday, he was officially dealt to his fourth NBA team.

Irving was traded from the Nets to the Mavericks for Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, a 2029 first-round pick and a pair of second-round picks. The trade sends Irving to a Dallas team led by Luka Doncic that finds itself sixth in the Western Conference standings, just a half-game ahead of the Warriors to stay above the play-in line.

The move sets up a pairing of two of the top scorers in the league. Since the start of the 2019-20 season, Doncic ranks second in the league with 29.3 points per game, while Irving is 10th at 27.1 points per game.

The trade sends ripples across the NBA world, potentially moving the Mavericks into serious title contention in a wide-open Western Conference.

Dinwiddie, who spent five years with the Nets from 2016-21, thanked the Mavericks for his time in Dallas, and shed light on what it's like to find out he's been dealt from The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Understandably, the deal elicited plenty of reactions from other NBA players as they watched the landscape of the title chase shift dramatically.
