Karl Anthony-Towns set the Minnesota Timberwolves single-game scoring record on Thursday (AEDT) finishing with 56 points and 15 rebounds in a 126-114 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

The previous franchise high was set by Mo Williams (52) in 2015 in a 110-101 win over the Indiana Pacers.


Towns faced little resistance all game shooting 75% from three-point range and 59% from the field overall. He set the single-game record on a three-pointer right in front of his bench with 1:16 to go in the game.

Andrew Wiggins added 17 points and Jeff Teague finished with 11 points, eight assists in the win.

The win was the Timberwolves' 43 on the year as they try to stay in the battle for the fifth seed in the Western Conference.

The Hawks were without Dennis Schroder so Taurean Prince stepped up and finished with a team-high 21 points. Isaiah Taylor who started for Schroder added 20 in the loss.


According to Micah Adams of ESPN Stats & Info Towns became the 10th player in the league this season to record at least 50 points in a game this season tying the NBA record set last season.
