Few things in life are worse than being on the wrong side of an insurance claim. Just ask the Sixers.

The team will have to pay all $9 million it owes injury-riddled Joel Embiid for two years of inactivity because his broken foot was a pre-existing injury, according to ESPN.com's Darrell Rovell. The No. 3 overall pick from Kansas has yet to play a game since being drafted in 2014.

Philadelphia could have received 60 percent back (approximately $5.4 million) from the league if his injury had occurred after he joined the team. Embiid first underwent surgery a week before the team drafted him.

The team will be without the services of the big man for the second consecutive season after he experienced a setback in recovery from a broken right foot. The team announced on Saturday that Embiid would have a second surgery this week.
