Donovan Mitchell has been making a case to take home this year's Rookie of the Year trophy, but before that gets announced he has his eyes set on another title.

Mitchell is keen to show off his athleticism in this year's Slam Dunk contest.

He told the "I am Rapaport" podcast that he has some dunks up his sleeve but doesn't think he can compete with the NBA's elite dunkers.

"I'll do it," he said. "But if you've seen Aaron Gordon, Derrick Jones (Jr.), and all those guys, I'm not gonna win it.

"I keep telling people this joke. I grew up with Derrick Jones, like around him for a long time. I've probably done 13 dunk contests in my life. I lost 12 to Derrick Jones.

"So I would definitely do it. I got some dunks that I think would be cool."

It will be interesting to see if Mitchell gets invited to NBA All-Star's marquee event.

He'll most likely already be participating in the Rising Stars challenge that weekend and after seeing some of his dunks this season might end up being a sleeper pick for the Dunk off the following night.
