Just like the start of his college career at Duke, Harry Giles' NBA debut will be delayed due to his problematic knees.

The Kings announced Friday that Giles, the 20th overall pick in this summer's draft, "will be out through at least January while he and the Kings training staff focus on a measured and sustained progression plan designed to improve physical strength in his surgically repaired knees."

Giles, 19, missed his sophomore and senior years of high school due to knee injuries, then underwent another procedure last October as he was about to begin his first and only season at Duke. That operation meant he missed the first 11 games of his freshman season, and he ended up playing only 11.5 minutes per game the rest of the way once he returned to the court.

The Kings obviously knew what they were getting into with Giles, but the team said in Friday's release the 6-foot-11 forward is "otherwise healthy" and will continue to participate in some aspects of practice as he continues to work with the training staff.
