Dwight Howard was once a Laker. He's left for greener pastures in Houston, a team with championship aspirations.

He's apparently not too upset about his former team struggling.

When asked by ESPN.com's Baxter Holmes about the guys in gold and purple, Howard responded with a joke.

That's a reference to a GEICO commercial in which Pinocchio acts as a motivational speaker.

See, the joke here is that the wooden boy -- and Howard -- are lying.

Nevertheless, fans in L.A. decided to give Howard a rousing sendoff near the end of the game, which the Rockets center responded to in kind.

Picking between Howard and the Lakers is like choosing which thumb you want to cut off. You can't fault Dwight for smiling, however, since he got the better deal in heading to Texas.

The Rockets beat the Lakers, 99-87, as Howard sat out with a right ankle injury.
