Where will Xavier Cooks and Jack White sign? Australian duo waived by respective NBA teams ahead of season start image

With the new NBA season just days away, two Australian players have found themselves without teams, as Jack White and Xavier Cooks were both waived from their team's rosters.

For Cooks, this heartbreaking news comes just days before he was set to begin his first-ever full season as an NBA player, after joining the Wizards for the final 10 games of last season. Cooks also featured prominently for the Australian Boomers at the FIBA World Cup, leading many to believe he would stick with the Wizards

White was headed into his second season in the league - he spent the 2022-23 season as a two-way player with the Denver Nuggets - and was set to join fellow Australian Josh Giddey in Oklahoma City, but was removed from the roster ahead of their season opener against the Chicago Bulls.

With less than a week until the new season tips off, there are still a number of teams with spare roster spots, meaning the NBA dream of these two players is not over, but where will Xavier Cooks and Jack White end up come opening night?

Where will Xavier Cooks and Jack White sign?

With Cooks and White now free agents, there are still a number of NBA teams yet to complete their roster, with both guys showing more than enough over the last year to be worth a fringe contract.

The Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, and Washington Wizards are all yet to finalise their rosters, while the Golden State Warriors have one open roster spot, meaning that either Reath or White could conceivably find their way onto on of these squads.

Cooks has previously played in Europe, and the international door will most definitely be open for both players if their NBA dreams are not realised.

Having both played in the NBL, the option to return to Australia is also there for both players, but it will be unlikely that we see either player Down Under in the immediate future.

Duop Reath converted to two-way deal

Fellow Australian Duop Reath was also thought to have been a victim of the roster cuts, and while he was initially waived by the Portland Trail Blazers, he was quickly re-signed by the team on a two-way deal.

This deal means Reath will split time between the Trail Blazers and their G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix.

How many Australians are in the NBA?

With both Cooks and White being cut, that leaves 10 Australians currently on NBA rosters.

These players range from young stars like Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels to NBA veterans including Joe Ingles and Patty Mills.
