Is Draymond Green retiring? Contract details, what Warriors star has said about his NBA future image

The Warriors season has come to an abrupt ending.

Golden State fell in the NBA Play-In Tournament, closing a chaotic and inconsistent 2023-24 campaign.

The Warriors were fighting to stay in the playoff picture for the majority of the year. They fended off a late-season push from the Rockets to qualify for the Play-In Tournament, but their postseason started and ended with a 118-94 loss to the Sacramento Kings.

Now there are questions facing Golden State's championship core as the team tries to keep the back end of its dynasty alive.

Stephen Curry, 36, is under contract through the 2025-26 season and the Warriors should be committed to maximizing what is left of his title window. Klay Thompson, 34, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and he is reportedly drawing interest from other suitors.

And then there is Draymond Green, 34, who is under contract through the 2025-26 season with a player option in 2026-27. Even though he is locked up for a few more years, Green admitted he contemplated retirement earlier this year.

Will Green actually retire at the end of this season? Take a look at his comments below, along with his current contract.

Is Draymond Green retiring?

When Green served an indefinite suspension for an incident with Suns center Jusuf Nurkic earlier this season, the Warriors star forward admitted that he contemplated retirement.

On his podcast, "The Draymond Green Show," Green said that NBA commissioner Adam Silver was the person who talked him out of that decision.

"I just told him, 'Adam, it's too much for me. ... This is too much. It's all becoming too much for me, and I'm going to retire,'" Green said.

"And Adam said, 'You're making a very rash decision and I won't let you do that.'

"We had a long, great conversation — very helpful to me," Green continued. "Very thankful to play in a league with a commissioner like Adam, who's more about helping you than hurting you. Helping you than punishing you. He's more about the players."

Even though Green is 34 years old, he's still an All-Defensive Team-caliber defender at this stage in his career.

With the way his current contract lines up with Curry's, it is hard to believe that Green would consider retiring and throwing in the towel on what could be left of the Warriors' title hopes.

Don't be surprised if Green addresses retirement questions on his podcast after the season, though.
