The Dirk Nowitzki Show has at least one more act to go after this season.
The Mavericks forward has decided to pick up the player option on his contract next season, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Dirk will pick up the player option on his contract this summer and play next season. After that, he hasn't decided if he'll play some more.

Nowitzki, 37, has not decided whether the 2016-17 season will be his last, insisting he wants to retire at the Mavs.
"Obviously, I still have a year under contract and I'd love to fulfill it. I do have the possibility to opt out if I can. But that's not really in the plan," he told reporters.
"I always said I wanted to play three years [of this contract] to the end and kind of re-evaluate what my body feels like at the end of those three years.
"Saying all that, I'm weighing how this season goes. But in my mind, after we won the championship, it was always clear I would retire a Mav."
The only thing that may change his plan is if the Mavs go through a rebuilding phase, something Nowitzki appears to be uneasy about.
“I always want to make the playoffs and more. If that’s what the Mavs are going to do — rebuild — then we’ll have to wait and see.”
The Mavericks are currently in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with a 35-36 record.
Nowitzki has spent his entire career with Dallas after being traded from the Milwaukee in the 1999 NBA Draft. He became the fourth player in the last 50 years to score 40 or more points after age 37 on Sunday against the Trail Blazers.
He is averaging 18.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season.
