Dirk Nowitzki is finally getting paid like a franchise player again.

The Mavericks have added $10 million to the two-year, $40 million deal they reportedly agreed upon earlier this month, according to ESPN .
Nowitzki's new deal was already a sizeable raise for the 38-year-old, who earned just more than $8 million a year in each of the past three seasons.
The 2007 MVP took less money to help the team try to build a contender, though his team has failed to get out of the first round of the playoffs since winning it all in 2011.
In essence, he'll make the same money this season that he has in the previous three combined.
The second year is guaranteed for $5 million, as Nowitzki has said he'll evaluate his future after the 2016-17 season.
The new deal could be looked at as a reward for his unselfishness and loyalty to the franchise. It's the same thing that many feel should have happened to Dwyane Wade, who was never the highest-paid player for the Heat, and left for the Bulls and a two-year, $47 million deal.
For his part, Nowitzki has remained a big contributor for the Mavericks, averaging a team-high 18.3 points per game in 2015-16.
