The Australian Opals are into the Olympic Games semi-finals, taking on Team USA in a blockbuster matchup.

The Opals have not advanced to an Olympic semi-final since London 2012, where they lost to eventual winners USA, before going on to clinch bronze against Russia.

After a disappointing opening game loss to Nigeria, the Opals have steadily built momentum through the tournament with wins over Canada and France, capped off by their best performance of the Games so far against Serbia in the quarter-finals, headlined by Alanna Smith (22 points) Jade Melbourne (18 points), and Cayla George (18 points).

The Aussies will have their work cut out for them, coming up against the most dominant team in Olympic women's basketball history, with the USA riding a 59-game win streak as they look to win their eighth consecutive gold medal.
