The Australian Boomers came up just short in a tight 85-82 loss against Germany, which jumped to the top of the Group E standings at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Dennis Schroder was the star of the show, pouring in a game-high 30 points (10-of-19 shooting) to go with eight assists and four steals, while Maodo Lo added 20 points.

Patty Mills led the Boomers with 21 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Josh Giddey added 17 points and three assists. Australia will now turn its attention to Japan on Tuesday night.

8:25 p.m. — Giddey gets the half-court heave up and appears to get fouled, demonstratively arguing the call with the officials... but he won't get the whistle. Germany wins.

8:22 p.m. — Patty Mills turns the ball over. Germany makes the Boomers pay at the other end to go up by three.

8:19 p.m. — After Giddey splits a pair of free throws, the Boomers go straight into the trap and force a wild turnover from Schroder.

We've got a terrific finish coming up with the Boomers trailing by one. Only 23.6 seconds left! Here we go!

8:18 p.m. — Schroder with another big bucket at the rim. He's got 30 points tonight. Germany leads, 83-80.

8:16 p.m. — The bodies hit the deck on the loose ball, and the officials will now review the play for a potential unsportsmanlike foul on Nick Kay.

After trailing by eight points early in the quarter, the Boomers take a one-point lead into the first break behind 13 points and four rebounds from Patty Mills.
