Australia vs Georgia score, result: Boomers use balanced offence to close out World Cup campaign with a win image

The Australian Boomers closed out their 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup campaign with a 100-84 win over Georgia. 

Five players scored in double figures led by Patty Mills with 19 points, while Dante Exum provided a spark off the bench with 18 points. Duop Reath added 16 points, Josh Giddey 15 and Joe Ingles 10 as the Boomers finish with a 3-2 record.

Goga Bitadze led Georgia with 20 points, while Thaddeus McFadden chipped in 18 points and Giiorgi Shermadini 16.

7:14 p.m. — That's a wrap from Okinawa as the Boomers cruise to a 14-point win to finish with a 3-2 record.

7:12 p.m. — With 1:43 to play the Boomers empty the bench, bringing in Cooks, White and Thybulle.

Chris Goulding knocks down the jumper for his first points of the tournament. 

7:10 p.m. — Dyson Daniels spins into the lane and dumps off the slick dime to Nick Kay as they restore their 20-point advantage at 98-78.

7:09 p.m. — Chris Goulding checks in the Boomers. He's played just six minutes throughout the tournament. 

7:01 p.m. — Exum is at it again! He knocks down his third triple of the game and Australia's 14th of the night as the lead is back out to 20 points — tied for their biggest lead of the game.  

7:00 p.m. — DUOP REATH POSTER!!!

6:58 p.m. — Giddey connects on the floater to make it a quick 6-0 run from Australia as they push the lead back out to 85-69.

6:55 p.m. — Luka Liklikadze gets tangled up with Josh Giddey and is ejected from the game. 

End of third quarter: Australia 79, Georgia 67

Georgia are keeping things interesting heading into the fourth quarter, with Thaddeus McFadden heating up from beyond the arc. He has a team-high 17 points.

6:47 p.m. — Joe ingles exchanges some words with his future Orlando Magic teammate Goga Bitadze as the officials assess a double technical for their trouble. 

6:43 p.m. — McFadden again! That's his third 3-pointer of the quarter as Georgia cut the Boomers lead to 73-62.

6:40 p.m. — Exum picks up his first foul tonight. That's Australia's fourth of the quarter with three minutes remaining as Georgia continue to chip away at the lead. . 

6:39 p.m. — Georgia respond to Australia's 6-0 run with a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 14 points. Boomers lead 65-51. 

6:38 p.m. — Dante Exum continues to give the Boomers offence a spark. He's up to 12 points and three assists. Boomers lead 64-48

6:38 p.m. — REATH AGAIN! He's 3-of-3 from the 3-point line tonight. Boomers lead 57-39.

Half-time: Australia 54, Georgia 37

The Boomers take a 17-point lead into the half. Patty Mills leads the way with 16 points on 3-of-6 from downtown, while Dante Exum has given the Aussies a huge spark off the bench with eight points in nine minutes.

Giorgi Shermadini leads Georgia with 12 points, while Goga Bitadze has nine. 

6:12 p.m. — Joe Ingles beats the half-time buzzer to knock down Australia's 10th triple of the half — more than they've hit in any game so far in the tournament

6:07 p.m. — Australia is doing a much better job turning their defence into offence and getting out on the break. Patty Mills scores on back-to-back possessions and has 13 of his 16 points in the second. Boomers lead 51-33.

6:01 p.m. — Australia's carelessness with the ball is keeping Georgia in the game. Georgia has scored 12 points off Australia's 10 turnovers, getting plenty of easy looks in transition.  

5:53 p.m. — Duop R3ath! The big fella gets another triple to go as the Boomers are now 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. Boomers lead 34-23.

5:53 p.m. — The Boomers have racked up eight turnovers already early in the second. They average 11.3 per game through the tournament, 

5:52 p.m. — How did Matisse get that to go? Ingles and Thybulle connect on the half-court alley-oop as the Boomers get out to an 8-2 run to start the quarter. 

5:50 p.m. — Strong move from Dante Exum in the post. He follows his own miss and gets the and-1 play to extend the lead to 26-17. 

End of first quarter: Australia 23, Georgia 17

The Boomers go into the first break with a six-point lead by six points from Josh Giddey. Giorgi Shermadini leads Georgia with eight points 

5:44 p.m. — Goga Bitadze and Joe Ingles trade threes in quick succession as both teams look to find their feet on offence. Boomers lead 21-15.

5:42 p.m. — The turnovers continue to pile up for both teams with six apiece. It hasn't been a pretty start to the game as the Boomers hold a 16-12 lead. 

5:39 p.m. — Dante Exum, Joe Ingles, and Xavier Cooks check in for the Aussies as they go small with just over four minutes to play. 

5:36 p.m. — Duop Reath joins the party from deep to knock down the Boomers' third triple of the quarter. All five starters have now scored in Q1. Boomers lead 15-12. 

5:35 p.m. — Both teams are getting up and down the floor at a fast pace to start this game, with some early turnovers on both sides. Scores tied at 12-12.

The second round of the Group Phase at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3. The Final Phase, or knockout round, begins on Sept. 5 with the third-place and golden medal game scheduled for Sept. 10.
