The Australian Boomers are back in action on Thursday night as they take on South Sudan at Rod Laver Arena.

Coming off a 90-86 loss against Brazil on Wednesday, the Boomers will look to bounce back after a tough shooting performance.

Against Brazil, the Boomers connected on just 41 percent from the field and 26 percent (9-of-34) from the 3-point line and were outscored 26-15 in the fourth quarter.

Josh Giddey led four players in double-figure scoring with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists, while Patty Mills added 11, shooting just 2-of-12 from deep. Nick Kay and Duop Reath finished with 10 points apiece. 

They now turn their attention to South Sudan in their final FIBA World Cup warm-up game on home soil, before flying out to Japan.

In the lead-up to the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, Australia will face South Sudan on Thursday, Aug. 17. The game is scheduled to start around 7:45 p.m. AEST at Rod Laver Arena. 

The Boomers' pre-World Cup games will air on free-to-air television on 9GemHD and are available to stream on 9Now.

The Boomers will have five warm-up games before the actual FIBA World Cup begins — three on home soil in Melbourne and two in Japan, where they will begin their campaign.

When is the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup?

  • Dates: Aug. 25-Sept. 10
  • Locations: Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup will begin on Friday, Aug. 25. The group stage will take place in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines and run through Sept. 3, with the single-elimination knockout stage beginning on Sept. 5.

The tournament will conclude with the gold medal match on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Australian Boomers schedule at 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup

Australia will be in Group E with Germany, Finland and Japan. All of their first-round group-stage games will be played in Okinawa, Japan.
