The Suns scored just 26 points in the second half and shot 31 percent from the floor for the game.
Atlanta's Mike Muscala, DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Teague finished with 16 points apiece.
The Hawks are one of the NBA’s oldest franchises, beginning as the Tri-Cities Blackhawks in the National Basketball League in 1946. The NBL merged with the Basketball Association of America to form the NBA in 1949. After five years in Moline, Ill., the Hawks moved to Milwaukee for four years before setting in St. Louis for the next 14 seasons.
The team moved to Atlanta in 1968 and has had several Hall of Fame players since the league expanded to an 82-game schedule in 1967. The franchise's lone championship came in St. Louis in 1958. That team was led by Hall of Famers Bob Pettit, Slater Martin, Cliff Hagan and Ed Macauley.
The Hawks won 57 games during the 1986-87 and 1993-94 seasons, but lost in the conference semifinals each season. Dominique Wilkins, a nine-time All-Star with Atlanta, led the team in scoring both seasons.
