Anthony Davis just can't catch a break.
The Pelicans' talented big man, who has already endured a litany of injuries this season, was forced to leave Monday's game against the Rockets with a concussion, the team announced . He did not return.
Davis suffered the injury when teammate Tyreke Evans inadvertently elbowed him while going up for a rebound in the second quarter in their 112-111 loss to the Rockets. Davis scored nine points and had six rebounds before leaving the game.
The NBA says there is no specific period of time a player must sit out due to a concussion. Davis will need to be cleared by the Pelicans' team doctor after a consultation with Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher, director of the NBA’s Concussion Program, before he can return to the court.
Davis' status might be murkier because this isn't his first concussion. He suffered a mild concussion in 2012.
