PAUL GALLEN FIGHT NEWS: GAL'S HARSH WORDS FOR MATT COOPER

Paul Gallen has told former Dragons centre Matt Cooper to stop embarrassing himself by continually calling out the Cronulla skipper to take him on in an MMA bout.

Cooper was at it again this week, shooting a video in which he taunts Gal.

It’s the latest in a series of attempts to cajole Gallen into the ring.

“I’ve been hearing the same crap for three or four years and my answer is always the same: Put a contract in front of me,” Gal told The Weekend Hangover.

“If he does, and the terms are to my liking, I will fight him anywhere he likes – boxing or UFC.

“But this will be like all the other times – nothing will come of it. It’s getting embarrassing.”

TRENT BARRETT TO COACH WESTERN AUSTRALIAS NRL TEAM?

He steered clear of his acrimonious departure from Manly, but former Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett won over a new legion of fans after flying to WA at his own expense to appear for free at a footy fundraiser.

Barrett spent two hours answering questions and taking fans through his rugby league career as guest speaker at the Rockingham Sharks.

The ex-Manly boss did not ask for a single cent to appear, nor did he put his hand out for travel or accommodation expenses.

His only request was there be no talk of his bitter exit from Brookvale, due to him still being under contract.

“You know some of them are in it for the money and that’s fair enough, but not Trent,” Rockingham chairman Peter Rowe told The Weekend Hangover .

“He didn’t ask for a single thing. He took us through his playing career and the great players he played with and against.

“He stayed right until the end of the night and was such a great guy.

“I couldn’t commend him more highly.”

Barrett joked that he’d put his hand up to coach a Western Australian team if one was granted entry to the NRL

The Perth Sea Eagles, anyone?

NRL FINALS 2019: TOP 10 WILDCARD SYSTEM OUT

Remember the top 10 wildcard finals system floated just before season kick-off?

Well, you can quickly forget it because it won’t be happening.

The negative response from the majority of rugby league people chopped it off at the knees, Victor Radley style.

“It was just an idea, a concept,” NRL Head of Football, Graham Annesley, insisted.

“There will be divided opinion but at the end of the day we play this game for the fans and we are always looking at ways to further engage them.”
