NRL coronavirus: Channel 9 to replay classic games after pressure from rugby league starved fans image

Channel 9 will dust off the archives and replay classic rugby league matches on Friday nights after the 2020 NRL season was last week suspended due to the coronavirus.

With no live rugby league to be played until at least July 1, the network has bowed to public pressure from fans desperate for their NRL fix.

League legends Andrew Johns, Brad Fittler and Phil Gould will dissect the games and share old war stories on a star-studded panel.

“The footy’s back on Friday nights, I cannot wait for it, and this is the official title, ‘Wide World of Sports Presents The Greatest’,” Channel 9 host James Bracey told WWOS Radio.

“So we’re going to be looking back on the greatest footy moments of all time and this week we’re starting with grand finals live on Channel 9 from 7.30 Friday night, bring it on.”

“There’s so many stories behind the actual matches, all the build-up, what happens on the field that night, what was happening off the field that night and of course afterwards as well,” he said.

“The beauty of this is our panel get to chat about it but we’ll also have a long list of special guests we’ll be crossing to.

“It’s all live, Friday night, and it’s going to be footy at its best.”
