Curtis Scott has been sacked by the Canberra Raiders effective immediately, following an off-field incident earlier in the season.

The 23-year-old had been stood down by the club since round 12, after he was caught on CCTV footage in a nightclub incident.

Scott was fined $15,000 and suspended for three games by the NRL, and has since been charged by police with assault.

He told The Daily Telegraph over the weekend of his struggles with alcohol.

“I’ve been to the lowest of the lows...you can’t get any lower. It was as dark as it gets...I’d had enough of feeling sh*t," he said.

“I probably haven’t been happy for five years. I’ve had enough of letting myself and other people down.

“The reason I did drink was to try to escape the living hell. The pressure and the outside noise. I turned to alcohol to give myself a break and escape my problems."

Scott has since begun attending Alcoholics Anonymous via Zoom in recent months, and is looking to turn things around.

Unfortunately, the club have made the difficult decision to terminate the remainder of his contract, releasing a statement on Monday afternoon.

"The Canberra Raiders Board of Directors today decided to terminate the contract of Curtis Scott effective immediately," it said.

"The board carefully considered the statements made at the 'show cause' hearing with Curtis on August 17 and the material supplied afterward.

"The board decided that Curtis’ prior behaviour and recent assault charge has brought the club into disrepute, and they could not ignore this and the responsibilities that his NRL playing contract entails.

"The board said the club would continue to support Scott’s ongoing rehabilitation and it will be in contact with NRL Welfare in this regard.

"The club will be making no further comment on the issue."

Scott broke onto the scene in 2016 with the Storm, and was a part of their premiership-winning side in 2017.

He has had multiple off-field issues in the past, including an Australia Day incident involving police, where he was eventually found not guilty of assaulting police officers.
