NRL 2021: Cameron Munster convinced Cameron Smith will continue his legendary career image

Melbourne Storm superstar Cameron Munster has predicted his former captain Cameron Smith will continue his career with a rival club in 2021.

Munster, who spent the past six seasons playing alongside the legendary Storm hooker, added his voice to the speculation over the 37-year-old’s next move on Thursday.

Smith is yet to announce his plans for the upcoming season just six days out from the Storm’s season-opener against South Sydney.

Munster agreed with coach Craig Bellamy's assertion that Smith won’t add to his 430 appearances for the Storm but believes the legendary No.9 will line-up for either the Gold Coast Titans or Brisbane Broncos in the coming months.

“I don’t think he’s done,” Munster told reporters of Smith at the NRL season launch.

“I think he’s still got a lot to give in the game.”

Smith moved his family from Melbourne to the Gold Coast after leading the Storm to the 2020 NRL premiership and has been linked with both the Titans and Broncos.

He was last month spotted training at a local oval on the Gold Coast and was an interested onlooker in the grandstand at the Titans’ first pre-season trial against the Burleigh Bears.

Multiple reports have also suggested the Broncos have been in touch with Smith’s camp, while new coach Kevin Walters has publicly confirmed his interest in signing the ex-Queensland and Australia captain.

“The Broncos have got some good young talent and so do the Titans,” Munster said.

“To have someone like Cameron Smith in the side, leading them around and showing the qualities of a good player and the qualities of a good person off the field, I’m sure both of those teams would blossom.”

While the NRL campaign kicks-off next Thursday, Smith technically has until Round 20 to make a decision after the NRL this week moved the trade deadline from June 30 to August 1.

That means Smith could conceivably play the final five games of the regular season for a club and still be eligible to play in this year’s NRL finals series.
