NRL 2020: Melbourne Storm prop Albert Vete signs with Hull Kingston Rovers image

Melbourne Storm prop Albert Vete has signed a two-year deal with English Super League club Hull Kingston Rovers.

The 27-year-old managed just six appearances for Craig Bellamy’s premiership-winning side in 2020 to take his tally of first-grade appearances in Melbourne to just eight in three seasons.

Vete made his NRL debut for the New Zealand Warriors in 2015, playing 46 games before linking with the Storm in 2018.

He was not a member of the Storm’s grand-final winning side this season and has opted to take his talents to the Super League.

“Once I talked to a few people they convinced me it was the right move for me,” Vete said.

“I’m only 27 so I know I have a lot of footy in me.

“The reason Hull KR came about was my manager knows (Hull KR coach) Tony Smith, so he got in contact with him and I spoke to Tony a couple of times.

“I’d been coached by his nephew, Rohan Smith, when he was at the Warriors. We were just talking footy and it got serious when the season finished."

“I caught up with Tony and he told me where the club was heading and he was pretty disappointed with the way the season went this year.

“He wants me to come and add value to the club and that’s what I’m hoping to do.

Vete played one Test for Tonga in 2015.
