Queensland coach Kevin Walters has officially ruled himself out of the vacant Gold Coast job, preferring to continue his re-build of the Origin team.

Just hours after Garth Brennan was officially removed as Titans coach, Walters moved quickly to distance himself from the gig.

“I’m committed to coaching Queensland – that’s what I want to do next year,” he said.

“I’m not interested in doing both (NRL and Origin).”

“That’s where my heart lies. I am so passionate about Queensland. I want to get that right.

“The last couple of years we've lost and that doesn't sit easily with me.

“It was easy for me (to decide to stay).”

The Titans earmarked Walters for the job after axing Brennan but will now have to turn to Plan B.

Justin Holbrook, Craig Fitzgibbon and Adam O'Brien are considered front-runners, with Anthony Griffin and Trent Barrett also in the frame.

The door may now have closed on Walters' NRL coaching ambitions.

"I always said if the timing was right and the position was right, that I would (look at an NRL job)," he said.

"I just feel at the moment there is more work to do with Queensland. I started it and I want to finish it."
