David Fifita: Brisbane Broncos ‘confident’ star forward will re-sign despite South Sydney speculation, says Anthony Seibold image

He has been linked with multiple NRL clubs – but Brisbane Broncos coach Anthony Seibold has all-but declared superstar forward David Fifita will re-sign with the club beyond the 2020 campaign.

A News Limited report on Thursday claimed the 20-year-old representative star recently turned down $1.2 million a season to reunite with former coach Wayne Bennett at South Sydney on a multi-year deal.

Gold Coast Titans power broker Mal Meninga also this week openly declared the club’s interest in the blockbusting forward.

The Broncos have come under criticism in recent months for failing to secure Fifita’s signature sooner but Seibold moved to allay the fears of Broncos fans on Thursday.

"We are really confident with where we are at in the negotiations," Seibold said.

"David wants to let his football do the talking and I admire that and respect that.

"As a club we want to provide an environment for David to feel comfortable and play his best footy and I think we do that.

"He’s got a lot of his mates around him.

"Without making any further comments with regards to (the negotiations) we are very comfortable.

"There has been so much comment around David since last September-October.

"… Let’s ease up on him and let him play his footy."
