David Fifita: Anthony Seibold shuts down questions on Brisbane Broncos star amid reports of Gold Coast Titans defection image

Anthony Seibold was in no mood to discuss David Fifita on Friday night amid multiple reports the boom Brisbane Broncos back-rower is poised to sign a long-term deal with the Gold Coast Titans.

Brisbane’s season of misery continued on the field with a 46-8 belting at the hands of the Melbourne Storm.

But things could be about to get even worse for the once glamour club, with both Channel Seven and News Corp on Friday reporting the 20-year-old superstar could sign with the Titans as early as Monday.

“I’m not here to talk about that tonight, I want to talk about the game tonight,” Seibold quipped at his post-match press conference.

Fifita, who is still sidelined with a knee injury, has gone to ground in recent days after the Titans offered him a whopping one-year, $1.25 million deal earlier this month.

But the race to sign the 37-game star has reportedly taken a dramatic twist, with Channel Seven reporting the Titans have upped their offer to $3.3 million over three years, while the Broncos have countered with a three-year, $2.5 million deal.

News Corp is reporting the Titans’ offer is closer to $3.5 million, meaning the representative forward must sacrifice up to $1 million to remain at Red Hill.

Both reports suggest Fifita is leaning towards accepting the Titans offer and could make his decision to switch clubs in 2021 official on Monday.

The Queensland Maroons star was initially expected to sign a one-year deal due to a dispute with his current manager Steve Deacon, who has a contract to represent Fifita until the end of 2020.

But it appears the young gun will now opt for the security of a longer-term deal as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.
