NASCAR at Talladega: AJ Allmendinger spins out Chase Elliott to cause 18-car 'big one' image

Talladega Superspeedway turned into the World's Fastest Junkyard Sunday.

AJ Allmendinger spun out Chase Elliott with 20 laps to go, creating a logjam at the Geico 500. Allmendinger's car went upside-down, but he was able to walk away under his own power. At least 18 cars appeared to be involved in the wreck.

Danica Patrick, Brad Keselowski, Trevor Bayne, Martin Truex Jr., Corey LaJoie, Michael McDowell, Gray Gaulding, Elliott, David Ragan, Matt Kenseth, Allmendinger, Cole Whitte, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Austin Dillon and Erik Jones were all involved in the wreck.

The race was under a red flag for 27 minutes before that yellow flag finally came out.

This is how the crash looked from Patrick's car.

"It's just a bummer to be in an accident. We got stage points in the first round, and we were close in the second round. But everyone knows how these races go in the end," Patrick said to Fox. "Everyone was driving really reasonable. Hard, but not stupid. It was pretty good, until the end. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Dale Earnhardt Jr. missed the wreck by inches. 

 

 

Thankfully, it doesn't look like any drivers were injured in the wreck.
