Marc Marquez hailed a "really special" victory after completing a stunning win at the Australian MotoGP on Sunday.
The Repsol Honda man won at Phillip Island for the first time in his career thanks to a stunning final lap.
Marquez passed Andrea Iannone at Turn Two before overcoming a 0.8second deficit to leader Jorge Lorenzo to clinch a landmark 50th race win.
The defending MotoGP champion clocked the fastest time of the race with the lap and the Spaniard revealed he had to contend an overheated front tyre to secure the memorable triumph.
"In the beginning it was difficult especially to find the front feeling but then I come back, I tried to catch Jorge and I overtook him and I tried to push, but then I saw that the front tyre was moving a lot with this temperature and it was time to cool down again," he said.
"I tried to manage [the tyre] until the end but I had some [tough] moments. My plan was always in the last few laps to try to push a bit more but then Iannone and Valentino [Rossi] overtook me and it was difficult to manage.
"Honestly, I didn't believe that I would arrive to Jorge but I pushed 100 per cent on the last lap and in the end it was a great victory for me, for the team, for Honda and especially for everybody, because after a difficult season it's great to be on top.
"It [the last lap] was like a qualifying practice lap and when I took Andrea I pushed myself 100 per cent, especially on Turn Four I braked really deep and I caught a lot of metres on Jorge, so I thought 'okay, maybe it is possible'.
"I pushed and pushed and pushed and when I saw in Turn 10 that I was behind him really close, I said 'okay, I will try but only if I see clear', and I released the brakes and I was happy when I crossed the line in first place.
"Fifty wins is a lot and this is really special and to get the 50th victory with this kind of race is more special. I will try to draw my level and try to win more times but especially try to fight for the title many times."
Lorenzo may have missed out on top spot, but he is now just 11 points behind Movistar Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi at the top of the riders' standings.
"This position is more or less what I expected before the race because I knew Marc was very strong on Friday afternoon and also yesterday in the warm-up, so I expected him to be a little bit faster than me," he said.
"I think the mission of this Grand Prix is done because here, with the rear tyre spinning so much, it is always difficult to have grip on the exit of the corners so finally this result is very good."
