Australian racing drivers Jack Doohan and Calan Williams will feature in the 2022 Formula 2 Championship, following confirmation of the grid for the upcoming season.

F2 is the second tier of formula racing, with drivers regularly graduating to F1.

Doohan will drive for Virtuosi Racing, whilst Williams is set to compete for Trident Racing.

Both Australians coming to the new F2 season as rookies.

Two drivers from neighbouring New Zealand will also take part, with Liam Lawson and Marcus Armstrong earning seats for 2022.

Jack Doohan - the son of Australian motorcycle racing legend Mick Doohan - will aim to build on his already impressive racing résumé.

The 19-year-old failed to take any points in his debut F3 season but claimed four victories and seven podiums following a move to Trident.

He now continues with the same team in 2022, following a brief stint in the final two rounds of last year's F2 season.

Doohan has also recently signed on as an Alpine academy driver, which provides potential in-roads into the French team's F1 set-up.

Fellow Australian Oscar Piastri was an academy member and is now Alpine's reserve driver for the 2022 F1 season.

After two seasons in F3 with Jenzer Motorsport, Calan Williams will also be aiming to show he is capable of thriving at a higher level.

He claimed his maiden podium in 2021 and finished 19th by the conclusion of the campaign.

The 21-year-old is one of nine rookies on the grid for 2022.

The 2022 Formula 2 season begins on March 18 in Bahrain.
