Brodie Kostecki has produced a fantastic 2:05.511 lap to win the top 10 shootout and secure pole position for tomorrow's Bathurst 1000 for the second year in a row.

Despite missing the first six races of the season, he has proved he hasn't lost his touch, producing the best times in the second and third sectors, meaning he was able to hold off impressive challenges from Cam Waters and Broc Feeney.

Richie Stanaway set a blistering time to begin with the fastest time in sector one and finishing with 2:05.861, which kept him at the top for a good part of the shootout.

Andre Heimgartner had a horror run, spinning off on the first turn, leaving him nine seconds off the pace and in 10th position for tomorrow's race.

Kostecki will now look to go one better in the Great Race tomorrow afternoon, as he finished second in 2023.

What is the Bathurst 1000 top 10 shootout?

The top 10 shootout at the Bathurst 1000 is the way the grid order is determined for the top 10 places, including pole position.

The way it works is the top 10 racers from qualifying will be given the chance to put in one fast lap around the famous circuit and will attempt to have the fastest lap.

Whoever ends up with the fastest lap will start the main race on Sunday from pole position, with the rest of the top 10 then organised based on lap times.
