UFC 271: Results and highlights as Israel Adesanya retains middleweight title image

Israel Adesanya has retained the UFC middleweight title with a unanimous decision win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 271 in Houston.

Meanwhile, Australia has a new contender at heavyweight after Tai Tuivasa knocked Derrick Lewis out in a wild brawl in the co-main event.

Here's how it went down.

UFC 271 results

Israel Adesanya defeats Robert Whittaker via unanimous decision (48-47 x2, 49-46).

After being knocked down in the first round, Whittaker rebounded and went toe-to-toe with Adesanya for the next four rounds, taking the champ to the ground on multiple occasions.

The challenger had some great moments throughout the fight but was unable to capitalise, with Adesanya remaining the busier fighter throughout the five-round battle.

Tai Tuivasa defeats Derrick Lewis via second-round knockout.

The Aussie heavyweight took out an absolute slobberknocker of a fight, delivering exactly what fans expected.

Lewis claimed the first round, taking Tuivasa down twice in the opening five minutes.

The bout went up a notch in the second round as the pair traded blows in close.

Tuivasa wore some big right hands from Lewis but his chin held up before "Bam Bam" ended the fight with several huge elbows, sending Lewis faceplanting to the mat.

Jared Cannonier defeats Derek Brunson via second-round TKO.

Renato Moicano defeats Alexander Hernandez via second-round submission.

Bobby Green defeats Nasrat Haqparast via unanimous decision (30-27 x3).

Andrei Arlovski defeats Jared Vanderaa via split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29).

Casey O'Neill defeats Roxanne Modafferi via split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29).

The Aussie flyweight dominated the fight, setting a new record for significant strikes landed in a three-round fight at 125-pounds.

Somehow one judge scored it for Modafferi, much to the frustration of the commentators.

O'Neill also embraced the heel role in her octagon interview, calling out the crowd for booing her.

Kyler Phillips defeats Marcelo Rojo via third-round submission.

Carlos Ulberg defeats Fabio Cherant via unanimous decision (30-27 x3).

Ronnie Lawrence defeats Mana Martinez via unanimous decision (29-27 x2, 29-28).

Jacob Malkoun defeats AJ Dobson via unanimous decision (29-28 x3).

After a close first round in which Malkoun struggled to get Dobson to the mat, the Aussie turned the tables over the next ten minutes.

Robert Whittaker's training partner racked up six takedowns as he completely neutralised his opponent's offence to take a decision win.

Douglas Silva De Andrade defeats Sergey Morozov via second-round submission.

Jeremiah Wells defeats Mike Diamond via first-round submission.

Maxim Grishin defeats William Knight via unanimous decision (30-27 x3).
