Australian featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski will reportedly coach on the next season of 'The Ultimate Fighter'.

In what will be the 29th season of the reality television show, Brett Okamoto reports Volkanovski will be coaching against title contender Brian Ortega.

The pair were due to fight UFC 260 last month until the bout was scrapped after the Aussie contracted for COVID-19 a week out.

Their rescheduled fight will now take place at the conclusion of the season which begins filming later this month.

According to ESPN, the season will feature a middleweight and a bantamweight tournament.

Volkanovski becomes the second Australian in a row to appear as a coach on the program after former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker coached against Kelvin Gastelum in season 28 back in 2018.

On that occasion, the scheduled title fight between the pair never took place after Whittaker withdrew with injury.

As fate would have it, they will now meet for the first time on April 17 (18 in Australia) after Gastelum stepped up to replace Paulo Costa who was forced off the card with illness.

After several years on the back burner, the show which helped kickstart the careers of Whittaker, Gastelum, Michael Bisping, Rashad Evans, Nate Diaz, Tony Ferguson, Kamaru Usman and plenty more has been given the green light for another season.
