Colby Covington beat Tyron Woodley by TKO before taking a call from United States president Donald Trump on Saturday.
Covington dominated Woodley in Las Vegas before a rib injury ended the fight in the fifth round.
The 32-year-old Covington attended a Trump rally last week and he received a call from the president after his win over Woodley.
"You are a great fighter man, I tell you, you make it so easy, I don't know how the hell you do that," Trump said in the call, which took place during Covington's interview on ESPN.
"Congratulations, I wanted to watch that fight tonight, I wanted to watch it, you were great."
"YOU'RE NEXT!"

Should @ColbyCovMMA faces Masvidal or Usman next!? #UFCVegas11 pic.twitter.com/IUgTUByyAO
Former interim welterweight champion Covington improved his record to 16-2 in his first fight since December last year, when he lost to Kamaru Usman for the title at UFC 245.
Immediately after his win, Covington used his post-fight speech to talk about Trump and hit out at "woke athletes" like LeBron James.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the silent majority is ready to make some noise," he said.
"If you thought that was a beating, wait till November 3rd when Donald Trump gets his hands on Sleepy Joe (Democratic candidate Joe Biden).
"That's gonna be a landslide.
"I want to dedicate this fight to all the first responders and the military out there. This world would not be safe without you guys. You keep us safe, not these woke athletes.
"I'm sick of these woke athletes and spineless cowards like LeBron James."
In his post-fight press conference Covington went even further.
"Black Lives Matter is a complete sham," he said.
"It's a joke. They're taking people that are complete terrorists. These are bad people…
"[Tyron Woodley] is a communist. He's a Marxist. He hates America."
