The Yankees announced Tuesday that they have called up top pitching prospect Justus Sheffield, signing him to an MLB contract.

Sheffield, selected in the first round of the 2014 draft by the Indians, is expected to initially join the Yankees' bullpen. Pitching for two teams in the minors this season, Sheffield has gone 7-6 with a 2.48 ERA and 123 strikeouts in 116 innings pitched.

MLB.com currently has the 22-year-old ranked as the 11th-best pitching prospect, and the Yankees' top overall prospect.

The Yankees acquired Sheffield before the July 2016 trade deadline when they sent Andrew Miller to the Indians.
