Nationals catcher Matt Wieters undergoes surgery on hamstring image

Matt Wieters will likely remain on the disabled list after undergoing surgery on his left hamstring Wednesday, the Nationals announced Thursday. 

“Matt Wieters underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair his left hamstring. We will provide more information when Matt returns to Washington, D.C. and is evaluated by our medical staff,” the team said, via MASN Sports.

A timeline for Wieters' return has not been announced.

The catcher injured his hamstring May 10 against the Diamondbacks when he was rounding first base. He needed to be helped off the field and has been on the disabled list since.

In the meantime, Pedro Severino will take over catching duties.
