MLB trade rumors: Giants have 'talked about' dealing for Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury image

The Giants are looking to add an outfielder.

San Francisco has “talked about” trading for Yankees veteran Jacoby Ellsbury, according to a report from ESPN. It would probably be open to swapping a bad contract in exchange for the 35-year-old, the report says.

Ellsbury missed all of 2018 and underwent hip surgery to repair a torn labrum in early August. He was limited to just 112 games in 2017 and slashed .264/.348/.402 that season.

The Yankees inked Ellsbury to a massive contract in 2014, but he has failed to replicate the success he had with the Red Sox from 2007-13. He won a Gold Glove, a Silver Slugger and two World Series championships during his time with Boston.

Ellsbury has at least two more seasons remaining on the seven-year, $153 million deal he signed with New York.

The Giants finished 2018 with a 73-89 record and missed the playoffs for a second straight season. Meanwhile, the Yankees advanced to the ALDS, where they fell to the Red Sox in four games.
