MLB trade rumors: Diamondbacks would ‘love to move’ ace Zack Greinke image

The Diamondbacks could be looking to deal their top starting pitcher.

Arizona would “love to move” ace Zack Greinke in the offseason, according to a report from USA Today. Almost every Diamondbacks player is on the trading block, the report says.

Greinke registered a 15-11 record with a 3.21 ERA in 33 starts this season. He struck out 199 and walked 43 in 207 2/3 innings on the mound.

The five-time All-Star signed a six-year, $206.5 million contract with Arizona in December 2015. He has tallied a 3.53 ERA over his three seasons with the team.

Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen told the Arizona Republic earlier this week he had recently met with owner Ken Kendrick to discuss the team’s offseason plans.

"One of the takeaways for us was just to get a feel for what the trade market would be for various guys,” Hazen said. “(We will) evaluate the free-agent market as it comes out and see what happens and reconvene.

“We know we’re going to have to do some work externally. It’s not a matter of just plug-and-playing guys from within our system to fill the holes we’re going to have.”

The Diamondbacks were in postseason contention for much of 2018 but they fell out of the race and finished with an 82-80 record. They’ve missed the playoffs in six of the last seven seasons.
