MLB trade rumors: Kendrys Morales clears waivers, can be traded image

Blue Jays slugger Kendrys Morales, who came close to tying an elite MLB record earlier this week, is now cleared for the trading block.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman reported Wednesday that Morales cleared waivers and is eligible to be moved by Friday's trade deadline.

Morales had homered in seven consecutive games, one game shy of tying the MLB record, before being denied the record on Monday.

At age 35, he's still got plenty of pop in his bat, with 21 home runs and an .822 OPS in 352 at-bats this season. He could be a valuable addition for a contender looking for a bench bat or designated hitter help in the postseason. Players must be added to a team's roster before Sept. 1 to be eligible for the postseason.

Heyman also reported Blue Jays right-hander Marco Estrada also cleared waivers. The 35-year-old veteran is 7-10 with a 5.18 ERA and 1.37 WHIP this season. However, he's made several trips to the disable list. When healthy, he's pitched much better than his season mark indicates, as evidenced by his 2.35 ERA in five starts in June.
