Baseball has never seen a month like May in terms of home runs.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s eighth inning home run against the Rockies on Friday was the 1,120th home run in the majors in May. That broke the all-time record of home runs for a month set in August 2017.

Interestingly enough, according to ESPN, three of the top-five home run months of all time came in 2017, when MLB saw a record 6,105 homers. June 2017 ranks third on the list with 1,101, while May 2017 is fifth with 1,060. May 2000 saw 1,069 home runs.
According to MLB.com, 2,239 home runs had been hit entering Friday’s games, putting hitters on pace to shatter that 2017 annual record by more than 400 homers.
Other home run records also appear to be within reach. A handful of teams led by the Twins (106 home runs), are on pace to break the record for home runs by a team in a single season, set just last year by the Yankees (267).
In case you're wondering, Pittsburgh's Josh Bell, Houston's Alex Bregman and Reds second baseman Derek Dietrich led the majors with 12 home runs in May. José Abreu, Pete Alonso and Kris Bryant each hit 10, and 14 others hit eight or more home runs.
