Yankees fans will enjoy at least one more game in the Bronx as New York clinched home-field advantage for the American League wild-card game after an 11-6 victory Friday over the Red Sox.
The win will bring the Athletics to Yankee Stadium on Wednesday with the winner advancing to the AL Division Series to face the Red Sox.
This will be the second straight year New York has hosted the AL wild-card game. Last season, New York beat Minnesota to advance to the ALDS and made it all the way to Game 7 in the AL Championship Series before eventually falling to World Series champion Houston.
The home crowd should play into next week's game, Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge said, even though hosting teams are 5-7 all time in wild-card games.
"There's nothing like it. I don't know if I can really describe how they do it," Judge added, via ESPN. "They've got some kind of magic, man, coming to the jungle. It's just a crazy atmosphere. It's what you play for."
En route to securing another game in New York, the Yankees hit four home runs for the second consecutive game. The fourth homer Friday put New York's season total at 264, equal to the 1997 Mariners for the most in a single MLB season.
Center fielder Aaron Hicks believes the record is beatable with two games left in the regular-season.
I say: 'Why not?' " Hicks said.
