Buster Posey injury update: Giants catcher will likely have season-ending surgery, report says image

Buster Posey’s season could be coming to an end.

The 31-year-old Giants catcher will likely undergo hip surgery forcing him to miss the rest of 2018, according to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle. Posey did not play in this season’s All-Star game because he needed to receive treatment on his hip, the report says.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy told the Chronicle the team is currently discussing when Posey will have the surgery.

“I’ll be honest with you … We talked about it,” Bochy said. “Nothing’s been determined yet. Because we want him ready for next year. We’re discussing that now.”

Posey said Tuesday he has been pushing through the injury.

“It’s something that obviously bugs me still, which I deal with,” Posey said. “It’s better some days than others. Some days it’s cranky … Right now, we’re going day to day. We’ll see where we’re at tomorrow and the next day.”

Posey, a six-time All-Star, has registered a .286/.360/.386 slash line in 103 games this season. He has also hit five home runs and tallied 40 RBIs.

The Giants entered play Tuesday with a 62-64 record. They trail the Phillies by seven games for the second National League wild-card spot.
