Buster Posey injury update: Giants catcher will have season-ending surgery image

Buster Posey’s season is coming to an end.

The 31-year-old Giants catcher told The Athletic he will undergo season-ending hip surgery Monday. Posey is expected to return in six to eight months, according to The Athletic's report.

"If things go smoothly with no hiccups, I'll be ready to go next Opening Day," Posey told reporters Friday.

Posey did not play in this season’s All-Star game because he needed to receive treatment on his hip, according to an earlier report from the San Francisco Chronicle. He said last week he was pushing through the injury.

“It’s something that obviously bugs me still, which I deal with,” Posey said Tuesday. “It’s better some days than others."

Posey, a six-time All-Star, will finish the season with a .284/.359/.382 slash line in 105 games. He has also hit five home runs and tallied 41 RBIs.

The Giants entered play Saturday with a 63-67 record. They trail the Brewers by nine games for the second National League wild-card spot.
