The White Sox remain in play to sign Manny Machado.

The star is Chicago's top free agent target and it's still contenders to sign him, according to a report from The Athletic, which cites unidentified league sources.

The Padres and Phillies are both also still interested in adding Machado. San Diego has offered the infielder an eight-year deal worth at least $240 million, according to an earlier report from USA Today.

Machado, who was sent from the Orioles to the Dodgers before the trade deadline, registered a .297/.367/.538 slash line in 162 total games in 2018. He also hit 37 home runs and tallied 107 RBIs.

Machado, 26, is a four-time All-Star and has won two Gold Glove awards.

The White Sox finished with a 62-100 record in 2018 and missed the playoffs for the 10th consecutive season.
