The Royals have reached an agreement with free-agent catcher Martin Maldonado, according to multiple reports Saturday.

Maldonado will sign a one-year contract reportedly worth $2.5 million. Maldonado must pass a physical before the deal becomes official. The contract also provides for $1.4 million in incentives, according to the Athletic.

Maldonado, 32, played for the Angels and Astros last season, hitting a combined .225 with nine home runs and 44 RBIs in 119 games. He won on a Gold Glove in 2017 with the Angels.

Kansas City was in the market for a catcher after Salvador Perez had season-ending Tommy John surgery Wednesday.
