Could the Phillies be on the brink of signing Bryce Harper?

Well, according to a report from NBCS Philadelphia, which cites unidentified sources, Phillies owner John Middleton's plane is "on the ground" in Harper's home town of Las Vegas, Nev., this weekend.

Harper also appears to be in town with his representatives, according to Fancred sports.

But, according to ESPN, a deal is unlikely.

This news comes just days after Manny Machado signed with San Diego, Padres general manager A.J. Preller flew to Miami to meet with the four-time All-Star. Machado agreed to a 10-year, $300 million deal soon after that.

Harper has reportedly turned down multiple $300 million deals in the last couple of weeks. He once said he wants to be the sport's first $400 million athlete. He may not get that, but after Machado got his payday, it's possible Harper gets a number in that vicinity as well.

The Padres and Giants appear to still be interested in signing Harper as well.
