MLB hot stove: ‘Momentum building toward’ Bryce Harper’s return to Nationals, report says image

Bryce Harper could end up heading back to the Nationals.

There’s “momentum building toward” the 26-year-old free-agent outfielder returning to Washington, according to a report from MLB.com, which cites an unidentified league source. The Nationals made Harper a 10-year opening contract offer worth around $300 million earlier this offseason, the report says.

The Phillies and White Sox are both also interested in Harper while the Dodgers could be another possible landing spot, according to the report.

Harper slashed .249/.393/.496 with 34 home runs and 100 RBIs in 159 games with the Nationals in 2018.

Harper has spent all seven of his MLB seasons with Washington. He is a six-time All-Star and won the MVP award in 2015.

The Nationals finished last season with an 82-80 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
